Dear residents,
Keeping you informed is important to us, so here's an update on the work we've been doing alongside our communities over the past few months.
Gunner in action As part of a proactive operation funded by Rushden Town Council, a specialist knife detection dog has been deployed to help the team recover two folding knives and a screwdriver during a public space search. The specialist dog, Gunner, is one of only a handful of knife detection dogs currently operating in the country.
Proactive patrols in Irthlingborough and Rushden PC Bristow and PC Leask were conducting proactive patrols in Irthlingborough when they encountered a male and detained him under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Following the search, officers found a quantity of suspected Class A, B and C drugs, and a knife. The male was subsequently arrested and has since been charged with offences.
Whilst on patrol in Rushden, officers identified a vehicle that failed to stop. After searching the area, the vehicle was located and stopped by the team who carried out a search and uncovered a quantity of Class A and Class B drugs. Two people were arrested and remain on bail while investigations continue.
Anti-social behaviour updates Officers from the Rushden team have been working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour across the area. Some of the work carried out so far includes the issuing of seven fixed penalty notices, two anti-social behaviour warning letters, four community protection warning notices, and two community protection notices.
A 40-year-old man who admitted repeatedly breaching his Community Protection Notice has been issued with a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order. On July 20, Jason Sadler, of Grimmer Walk, Irthlingborough, was fined £635 at Northampton Magistrates' Court and ordered to pay a £224 victim surcharge and £85 court costs after admitting to eight breaches between April 8 and May 26, this year. Sadler was also issued with a two-year restraining order. However, following this conviction, East Northants Neighbourhood Policing Team applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order to help prevent him from continuing to harass those affected by his anti-social behaviour. On Friday, October 2, the neighbourhood team returned to Northampton Magistrates’ Court, where they successfully obtained a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order against Sadler.
